How is the Program Structured?
Two groups based on age and ability, will be formed immediately after final registration assuming full enrollment. Groups may change for instruction and skill development. Players will be paired for on-course playing based on the level they have achieved (see below)
The Program consists of 9 Levels which golfers advance through based on meeting several golf requirements. Our goal is NOT to have players rapidly move through programs by meeting a single goal once. Rather, we would like players to develop proficiency with skills and demonstrate in several ways to be sure they have achieved a bit of mastery before advancing. The skills tested and criteria to advance vary with the level but all include Putting and Chipping proficiency and on-course playing. Level specific Rules Tests, which include the Etiquette Section of the United States Golf Association Rules of Golf along with the Rules Section, are also be required. The Etiquette Section includes the Spirit of the Game: Integrity, Consideration for Others, Respect, Sportsmanship etc.... The Rules Section part of the testing start with vary basic concept for the beginners and require the advance players to use the Rules of Golf Book to look up and site the ruling based on various scenarios. For those needing a quiet setting or help reading, please let us know and we will do our best to provide for you.
Where can I find the requirements to advance?
Adult/Child Meetings will be held throughout the year. During these meetings, we will explain the whole program and pass out several charts to let you have a clear picture of the requirements for each skill, for playing on-course and information covered on each written test.
In 2018, the meetings will be held at the Brainerd Golf Course in the Fire Place room.
Spring Enrollment will be finalized during these meetings which will be held at 10 AM, 11 AM, Noon and 1 PM on the following dates:
Tuesday, January 2
Saturday, January 13
Saturday, February 10
Saturday, February 24
Do I start at Level 1 if I am new to the program even if I am older?
All who are new to the program (ages 8 through 18) will begin in the level that fits their present abilities. We will trust your initial judgement based on your review of the criteria and your game. All golf skills and written tests for a level would need to be passed in order to advance. The program is designed to allow players to advance quickly if they are ready to advance. So, when players show proficiency, they will advance. Once everyone enrolls, we will split the large group into smaller groups of like levels and ages as possible. If you are older and concerned about being older than the group, encourage your friends to enroll.
How are classes structured at The Player Development Complex?
Classes will begin with a warm-up activity and then a golf skills clinic focusing on one or two skills along with a Guiding Principle will be held. Players will also have a small group playing lesson on the golf course. Play will begin on the putting green. When proficiency in putting is demonstrated, players will gradually move away from the green to begin the holes. When players have demonstrated proficiency holing out from a pitching distance, they will begin to play 3 holes. Each hole after that will be earned based on their scores.
